Why Take A Defensive Driving Course

Taking a defensive driving course offers a slew of really great benefits. Especially if you are taking an online defensive driving course. Let’s take a look at some of the great reasons to take a defensive driving course.

One of the biggest reasons someone takes a defensive driving course is to have a traffic ticket dismissed by the court. When you receive a minor traffic violation, such as speeding or not stopping fully at a stop sign, you have the option to ask the court if you can take a defensive driving course in order to have that ticket dismissed.

Here is how that process works:

  • Ask the court (prior to your court date) if you can take a defensive driving course to have the ticket in question dismissed.
  • If the court grants you permission to do so, sign up for a state and court approved defensive driving course (such as the one we offer).
  • You must take and pass the course at least 7 days prior to your court date.
  • Once the course is passed, you will receive a certification of completion. You will submit that certification to the court.
  • Within a few weeks the court will dismiss your ticket.

Another popular reason for taking a defensive driving course is for insurance purposes. Most insurance companies offer a discount and incentive to their insured drivers if they complete a defensive driving course. This can save you hundreds of dollars each year on auto insurance. Simply contact your insurance company and ask them if they offer an incentive program for taking a defensive driving course.

Defensive driving courses are also great refresher courses for those who have been driving for a long time. While driving experience may be present, sometimes knowledge of road signs, traffic signals and such can fade. It’s never a bad idea to get up to date information on local and state traffic laws either!

These are just a few of the most popular reasons as to why people take a defensive driving course. There are two ways to take a defensive driving course, in person (classroom setting) or online.

Taking an online defensive driving course is a really great way to take the course. Not only does it allow you to attend the course in the privacy and comfort of your own home, you will have the flexibility to start and stop the course at your leisure. It’s definitely better than having to drive to a physical location and spending an entire day or two in a classroom style setting!
