Online Defensive Driving Course

There are many reasons as to why a person would want to take a defensive driving course. Some may take the course as a refresher course in regards to traffic laws, road signs and defensive driving techniques. While others will take the course to have a traffic ticket dismissed or have their monthly auto insurance premiums lowered.

Let’s break down the top three reasons to take an online defensive driving course.

A Good Refresher

Even a seasoned licensed driver can forget various traffic laws and proper defensive driving techniques. This is why many people decide to take an online defensive driving course. Gaining knowledge on up to date traffic laws, rules and regulations of the road can help with driver confidence and only help to enhance driver safety.

Traffic Ticket Dismissal

Many courts will grant traffic law violators the option to take a defensive driving course in order to have a traffic ticket dismissed. As long as the traffic violation is minor and did not cause injury or death, a violator can ask the court if they can take a defensive driving course in order to have that violation dismissed. You are typically only allowed to take one defensive driving online course within a 12-month period from a violation date.

How it works:

  1. Ask the court prior to your traffic ticket hearing date if you are able to take a defensive driving course in order to have said ticket dismissed.
  2. If the court allows this, sign up for a defensive driving course such as this one and complete the course at least 7 days prior to your court date.
  3. Once the course is completed and passed, a certificate of completion will be given to you. Present this certification to the court and your ticket will be dismissed.

When a traffic ticket is dismissed you will not only save money on the opposed traffic violation fine, your traffic violation will not be reported to your insurance company and your insurance rates will not go up. Also, driver demerit points will not be added to your license.

Lower Insurance Rates

A big reason as to why a lot of people take defensive driving courses is to have their auto insurance rates lowered. Many insurance companies offer incentives and discounts for drivers that take and complete a defensive driving course.

Simply contact your insurance company and ask them if they offer a discount on insurance if a defensive driving course is taken and completed.

If your insurance company does offer a discount, this could save you hundreds of dollars each year in insurance premiums. Simply take the defensive driving course, pass the course and present the certification of completion to your insurance company.
