Frequently Asked Questions

What Is the Missouri Driver Improvement Program?

The Missouri Driver Improvement Program (DIP) is a court-approved alternative to having points added to your driver’s license for moving violations. Established under Missouri Revised Statute 302.302, this 8-hour educational program allows eligible drivers to complete driver safety training instead of receiving points on their license. The program must be completed within 60 days of your conviction date and is designed to improve driving skills and promote road safety.

How Do I Get Permission to Take the Course?

To participate in the Missouri Driver Improvement Program, you must first appear in court and request the judge’s permission to attend DIP instead of receiving points on your license. The court has the authority to allow you to attend DIP, but this decision is made on a case-by-case basis. There is no guarantee that the court will approve your request, so it’s important to check with the court in the county where your ticket was issued to learn about their specific policies regarding DIP.

Who Is Eligible for the Driver Improvement Program?

To be eligible for the Missouri Driver Improvement Program, you must have received a conviction for a moving violation and obtained court approval. You cannot participate in DIP more than once in a 36-month period, and you cannot participate if you hold a Commercial Driver License (CDL). Additionally, if your ticket was issued while operating a motorcycle, you must complete the Basic Rider Course instead of the standard DIP course. The program applies only to Missouri-licensed drivers or out-of-state drivers who received a Missouri ticket.

What Topics Does the 8-Hour Course Cover?

The Missouri Driver Improvement Program covers comprehensive driver safety topics including Missouri traffic laws and regulations, defensive driving techniques, hazard recognition and avoidance, safe following distances and speed management, the dangers of aggressive driving and road rage, impaired and distracted driving awareness, weather-related driving challenges, and proper vehicle maintenance for safety. The course is designed to make you a safer, more responsible driver while fulfilling court requirements.

Will This Remove the Ticket from My Record?

No, the Missouri Driver Improvement Program will NOT remove the ticket or conviction from your driving record. The program only prevents points from being added to your license. The conviction will still appear on your driving record, but you will avoid the point assessment that would normally accompany the violation. This can help prevent license suspension and may help with insurance rates, even though the conviction remains on your record.

How Long Do I Have to Complete the Course?

According to Missouri law, you have 60 days from your conviction date to complete the Driver Improvement Program. It’s important to complete the course within this timeframe to satisfy the court’s requirements. Once you finish the course, the completion information must be reported to the Department of Revenue within 15 days using the MO Form 4444.

How Do I Receive My Certificate and Documentation?

Upon successful completion of the 8-hour Missouri Driver Improvement Program, you’ll receive immediate access to your completion certificate and the required MO Form 4444. We handle all the necessary reporting to the Missouri Department of Revenue within the required 15-day timeframe, so you don’t have to worry about missing deadlines or paperwork requirements.

Can I Take the Course on My Mobile Device?

Yes! Our Missouri Driver Improvement Program is fully compatible with desktop computers, tablets, and mobile devices. You can complete your 8-hour requirement from anywhere with an internet connection. The course automatically adapts to your screen size for optimal viewing and navigation, allowing you to study during breaks, commutes, or whenever convenient for your schedule.

What Happens If I Don't Complete the Course in Time?

If you fail to complete the Missouri Driver Improvement Program within the court-ordered timeframe (typically 60 days from conviction), the points will be automatically added to your driving record as if you had not participated in the program. This could result in license suspension, increased insurance rates, and other penalties. It’s crucial to complete the course promptly once you receive court approval.
